Day close and the morning count

Count the drawer in the morning and in the evening, and see if the cash matches.

Day close compares the cash in the drawer with what the till expects. It uses two counts: one in the morning and one in the evening.

Morning count

  1. Open Day close before the first sale of the day.
  2. Count the cash in the drawer and enter it under Cash in the drawer this morning. The box is filled in with what was counted when the last day was closed, so you only confirm it or correct it.
  3. Click Save morning count.

Anyone can save today's morning count once. After that, only the owner can change it.

Evening count

  1. Count the cash in the drawer at the end of the day and enter it under Cash counted in the drawer.
  2. Click Close the day. The page shows the difference between what you counted and what was expected.

What the till expects

Expected cash is the morning count, plus cash taken from sales (after change given), minus cash refunds paid out. If you use credit customers, cash collected from them that day is added. Card sales, bills put on account, and bank transfers are not cash, so they are not in the drawer figure.

If the morning count was not saved, the expected cash starts from zero. Save it and the expected figure updates.

Several branches

Each branch has its own morning count and its own day close.

Mistakes

If the owner corrects the morning count after the day was closed, the day's expected cash and difference are recalculated.
